It is a glossy finish and has some brown swirls in the inside design. It appears to have been hand made on a potters wheel by a skilled artisan. It looks handmade due to the small amount of 'imperfections' which gives it character. Washes easily and looks pretty on my kitchen counter alongside my chasen and tea canister.
